Trinidad M. Cevalles

Trinidad M. Cevalles, 88, of Tolleson died April 13, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Cevalles was born May 23, 1927, in Tornillo, Texas.

He is survived by four daughters, Cathy Russ, Lonnie Flores, Laure Cevalles and Frances Carrasco; one son, Steve Cuen-Cevalles; one sister, Elena Lopez; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 19 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Tolleson, with interment at Glendale Memorial Cemetery.

 

Nancy Anne Hilton Huntley

Nancy Anne Hilton Huntley, 73, formerly of Litchfield Park died Jan. 12, 2016, in Poulsbo, Wash.

Mrs. Huntley was born June 24, 1942, in Phoenix to Robert K. and Roberta Hilton.

She spent her childhood in Litchfield Park and graduated in 1960 from Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale. She graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe with a degree in sociology.

She worked for 10 years as a flight attendant for Western Airlines.

She married Edward Welles Huntley on Nov. 5, 1974, in San Juan County, Wash., and they lived in Bainbridge Island, Wash.

She was a member of the International Old Lacers Inc., and the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. She was a member and officer of the Poulsbo Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, and was also a member of the group’s chapters in Port Orchard and Priscilla in Port Gamble in Washington state.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward.

She is survived by one son, Chris; one daughter, Annie; one stepdaughter, Petra Mulvey of Bethesda, Md.; one stepson, Benjamin R. Huntley of Sequim, Wash.; and one sister, Elizabeth Hilton Rouse of Litchfield Park.

A memorial service was held April 17 in Poulsbo, Wash.

Danny Lopes Sr.

Danny Lopes Sr., 65, formerly of Tolleson died April 19, 2016.

Mr. Lopes was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Lopes.

He is survived by his fiancée, Angie Mancuso; two daughters, Patricia Lopes and Jannette Kaplenk; two sons, Danny Lopes Jr. and Arturo Fimbres; three sisters, Beatrice Centeno, Gloria Cesena and Yolanda Strickland; two brothers, Ronnie Cesena and Bobby Cesena; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a chapel service at 7 p.m. Friday at Advantage Crystal Rose Funeral Home, 9155 W. Van Buren St., Tolleson.

 

Joseph Ernest McCreedy

Joseph Ernest McCreedy, 33, of Phoenix and formerly of Buckeye died April 16, 2016, at his home.

Mr. McCreedy was born March 7, 1983, in Phoenix to Patricia Ann McCreedy.

He is survived by one grandmother, Maureen McCreedy; and one aunt, Dawn McCreedy.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, with interment at Louis B. Hazelton Cemetery in Buckeye.

 

Craig Ryan Mitcham

Craig Ryan Mitcham, 32, of Mesa and formerly of Litchfield Park died April 21, 2016, in Mesa.

Mr. Mitcham was born April 14, 1984, in Tacoma, Wash.

He is survived by two daughters, Austyn and Avry Mitcham; his parents, Michael and Mary Mitcham; one sister, Laurie Fisher; one brother, Christopher Mitcham; and one grandparent, Ronald Haddock.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m., with funeral services at noon Saturday at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix.

 

Beverly Jane Neal

Beverly Jane Neal, 85, of Buckeye died April 1, 2016, in Phoenix.

Mrs. Neal was born March 31, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio.

She graduated from Ohio State University in Columbus with a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

She worked as a dental hygienist for 24 years in Litchfield Park and three additional states.

She was active in the Senior Professional Rodeo Association, winning a world all-around title in 1995, as well as barrel and ribbon running events.

She won Senior Olympics medals for sprinting and race walking.

She was a ward and state leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its Relief Society. She served a genealogy mission and did a dental mission in Tonga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Neal.

She is survived by one son, Steven Neal; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 701 N. 95th Ave., Tolleson.

 

Bryan Lorbeer Smith

Bryan Lorbeer Smith, 34, of Scottsdale and formerly of Avondale, Goodyear and Litchfield Park died April 3, 2016.

Mr. Smith was born July 22, 1981.

He graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale and was a member of the student council and the swim, track, tennis and basketball teams.

He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in regional development and environmental science and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

He ran an alfalfa/hay operation for Discovery West Ranches in Goodyear and Buckeye. He also worked at Barkley Seed Inc. in Goodyear and recently started work at Scottsdale Medical Imaging.

He is survived by his father, Timothy L. Smith; his mother, Terry Watson; his stepfather, Dave Watson; his stepmother, Terry Smith; three brothers, Stafford, Chad and Dustin; one sister, Brooke; three grandparents, Stanley Smith, Dorothy Lorbeer and Barbara Watson; and his fiancée, Annie Michele.

A celebration of life was held April 23 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley.

Vaela’a Maloata Tuilefano

Vaela’a Maloata Tuilefano, 77, of Avondale died March 14, 2016.

Mr. Tuilefano was born June 18, 1938, in Malaeloa, American Samoa, to Savaauli and Tusifolau Tuilefano.

He served for more than 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, earning the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.

He returned to American Samoa and became a local senator. He was also commissioner of public safety, liaison to the governor of American Samoa and an elder deacon CCCCAS.

He is survived by his wife, Painuulasi; two daughters, Victoria Liaiga and Titoaana Tuiteleleapaga; three sons, Val, Wesley and Lloyd Tuilefano; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral service was April 2 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goodyear. Interment will be in American Samoa.

Melissa Ann Via

Melissa Ann Via, 44, formerly of Avondale died April 20, 2016, in Corinth, Miss.

Ms. Via was born Oct. 3, 1971, in Amarillo, Texas, to Ann Prince and Bobby Gene Via.

She graduated from Agua Fria High School in Avondale and attended Glendale Community College for two years with a focus on education.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Avondale.

She worked as a call center operator for Data Central in Corinth, Miss.

She is survived by her mother, Ann Prince of Corinth, Miss.; and one brother, Brent Via.

Services were April 23 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Acton, Tenn., with interment at Liberty Cemetery in Michie, Tenn.

 

Ysidra ‘Chica’ Villalobos

Ysidra “Chica” Villalobos, 66, of Avondale died March 29, 2016, in Phoenix.

Mrs. Villalobos was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Beeville, Texas.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Jesus Faith Center.

She is survived by four daughters, Angela Lopez, Della Lopez, Shanna Lopez and Irene L. Prieto; one son, Eddie Lopez; her mother, Trinidad Rodriguez; five sisters; two brothers; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services were at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale.

The Rev. Victor Hernandez officiated.

Leona Pearl Watson

Leona Pearl Watson, 90, of Youngtown and formerly of Avondale died April 19, 2016, in Youngtown.

Mrs. Watson was born May 30, 1925, in Oxford, Kan.

She moved to Arizona in 1942.

She was a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Watson; and one grandchild.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Davis; three sons, Darrell, Danny and David; three sisters, Sylvia Nelson, Velda Lance and Pat Reber; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. and graveside service at noon Friday at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Road, Phoenix.

The Rev. Lee Arp will officiate.

Emanuel Michael ’Mike’ Cartsonis

Emanuel Michael “Mike” Cartsonis, 88, of Litchfield Park died April 12, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.

Mr. Cartsonis was born July 27, 1927, in Detroit.

He attended Cass Technical Institute of Design in Detroit, was a classical violinist and spent summers working at a Chrysler plant.

He was drafted at age 18 into the United States Army, and was stationed in Japan with occupying forces.

He studied art at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he also played football.

He worked as a food purchaser at Michigan’s Osterweil Cooperative, where he met his wife, Sylvia Flax. They were married on July 16, 1954.

He transferred to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he graduated with an architecture degree. He also obtained a graduate degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

His professional achievements include an award-winning design for the University of Pennsylvania’s Van Pelt Library while he was a graduate student.

As an urban planner, he was a member of the team that conceived and implemented Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle renaissance.

He was recruited by the Goodyear Corporation to help create the planned community of Litchfield Park, where he designed and built his own home in 1968.

He served as Litchfield Park’s city planner for about 50 years until 2014, and also worked in urban planning and zoning for Scottsdale. He taught architecture at Arizona State University and the University of Waterloo in Canada. He also planned the city of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

During the 1970s and 1980s, he operated his own firm and designed commercial, medical, public and residential projects.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia; two daughters, Susan Cartsonis of Los Angeles and Ellen Cartsonis of Austin, Texas; three sons, Matt Cartsonis of Los Angeles, Michael Cartsonis of Litchfield Park and Jonathan Cartsonis of Phoenix; one brother, George Cartsonis of Southfield, Mich; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was April 30 at the Wigwam in Litchfield Park.

 

Miguel Bahena Castro

Miguel Bahena Castro, 88, of Goodyear died April 22, 2016, in Goodyear.

Mr. Castro was born May 25, 1927, in El Paso, Texas.

He worked as a truck driver and later worked for Key Metals.

He was a member of the La Purisima Catholic Church in Orange, Calif., for more than 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Cruz P. Castro; and one son, Jesse.

He is survived by his wife, Carlota C. Castro; six daughters, Martha, Maria, Cruz, Margie, Fabiola and Edna; three sons, Miguel, Gabriel and Jose; 27 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 E. La Pasada Blvd., Goodyear.

Tracy Lee Chaddock

Tracy Lee Chaddock, 49, of Buckeye died April 28, 2016, at Abrazo Buckeye Emergency Center.

Mr. Chaddock was born April 28, 1967, in Fresno, Calif.

He moved to Arizona in 2000.

He worked as a craftsman for Ames Construction.

He is survived by his partner of 17 years, Debra Stone; one daughter, Brytnie Nichole Chaddock of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, Tracy Lee Chaddock Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas; his parents, Alvin and Janice Chaddock of Buckeye; one sister, Cynthia Darlene Lindsey of Buckeye; two brothers, Henry Lee Chaddock of Goodyear and Mark Kevin Chaddock of Buckeye; and two grandchildren.

A viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday, both at Ganley’s Buckeye Funeral Home, 104 E. Baseline Road, Buckeye.

The Rev. Guy Bailey will officiate.

The funeral will be followed by a gathering at Refuge Church, 301 E. Baseline Road, Buckeye.

 

Emma Lopez Dominguez

Emma Lopez Dominguez, 66, of Tolleson died April 26, 2016.

Mrs. Dominguez was born Nov. 23, 1949, in Tolleson to Maria Luisa Lopez and Mateo Lopez.

She was preceded in death by one son, David Mendez.

She is survived by one son, Ruben Mendez; two daughters, Esther Barraza and Dulce Hernandez; her father, Mateo Lopez; four brothers; seven sisters; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 512 N. 93rd Ave., Tolleson, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 9925 W. Thomas Road, Avondale.

 

Rose Gardunio

Rose Gardunio, 79, of Goodyear died April 13, 2016, in Goodyear.

Mrs. Gardunio was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Colorado.

She moved to Arizona in 1954.

She worked for 28 years for Spring City Knitting Company.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Avondale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Gardunio; one daughter, Shirley Gardunio; and two sons, Reggie Gardunio and Johnny Gardunio.

She is survived by two daughters, Maxine Paz and Nancy Noyes; one sister, Becky Jiron; one brother, Philly Lopez; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 19 at Holy Cross Catholic Mortuary in Avondale.

 

Mary Moncerrat Gyory

Mary Moncerrat Gyory, 68, of Goodyear died April 26, 2016, in Goodyear.

Mrs. Gyory was born June 21, 1947, in Cruillas, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Jose Leal and Maria Rivas.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Gyory; one stepdaughter, Lisa Riesland; two sisters, Nelda Miller and Eva Laborin; one brother, Raymond Leal; and two grandchildren.

A visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. today at New Life Covenant Church, 541 E. Main St., Avondale, followed by interment at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Phoenix.

Harold Lee Beasley

Harold Lee Beasley, 71, of Buckeye died May 2, 2016, at Banner Grandview Terrace in Sun City West.

Mr. Beasley was born in Coweta, Okla., and moved to Arizona at age 3.

He worked as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Georgia Beasley; three sons, Harold Dewitt Beasley of Tolleson, Brian Beasley of Tonopah and Billy Beasley of Buckeye; one daughter, Shirley Smith of Phoenix; four brothers, Bob Beasley of Florida, Howard Beasley of Oklahoma, Bill Beasley of Buckeye and Darryl Beasley of Payson; six sisters, Norma Jo Eastridge of Oklahoma, Barbara Thompson of Ohio, Betty Merritt of Maricopa, Wanda Peuse of California, Carol Sly of Gila Bend and Debi Felder of Phoenix; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday his residence, 845 N. 193 Ave., Buckeye.

 

Humberto Bolivar

Humberto Bolivar, 77, of Goodyear died May 5, 2016.

Mr. Bolivar was born Sept. 8, 1938, in La Mesa, Cundinamarca, Columbia, to Jesus Guerrero and Aguedita Bolivar.

He is survived by his wife, Ana Lucia Forero de Bolivar; two daughters, Yaneth Mireya Bolivar Forero and Luz Nelsy Tobler; one son, Edgar Nain Bolivar Forero; seven sisters, Maria Jesus, Oliva, Alicia, Marina, Chavela, Ligia and Elsy; three brothers, Tito, Alfonso and Orlando; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Goodyear.

Marie Guadalupe Lovegrove

Marie Guadalupe Lovegrove, 71, of Buckeye died May 9, 2016, in Buckeye from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Mrs. Lovegrove was born Dec. 10, 1944, in Laredo, Texas, to Guillermo and Elena Ramirez.

She lived in Haysville and Bel Aire, Kan.

She became a licensed practical nurse, working with newborns and the elderly.

She was a certified Spanish medical interpreter for the state of Kansas, earning citations for her work combating diabetes in the Hispanic community.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim; two sons, James and Michael; two sisters, Christina Sanchez and Elena Blomstedt; and two grandchildren.

A visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary recital at 6:30 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Road, Avondale. Interment will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Norbert E. Maslowski

Norbert E. Maslowski, 69, of Goodyear died May 1, 2016, in Goodyear.

Mr. Maslowski was born May 6, 1946, in Chicago to Walter and Violet Maslowski.

He was raised in North Riverside, Ill.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

He worked at the Railroad Retirement Board until 2001, when he retired and moved from Palos Hills, Ill., to Goodyear.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; two sons, Steven and Jeffrey; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear.

 

Steven Moore

Steven Moore, 58, of Litchfield Park and Sammamish, Wash., died April 17, 2016.

Mr. Moore was born March 5, 1958, in Wichita, Kan., to Ruth and Neal Moore.

After moving to Washington, he graduated from Newport High School in 1976 and Central Washington University in Ellensburg in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

He was team leader and striker for his youth soccer team, which won eight consecutive Washington state championships.

He was co-founder of WatchGuard Technologies, a provider of integrated security appliances for small to mid-sized companies.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Moore; one daughter, Nicole Moore; one son, Evan Moore; his parents, Ruth and Neal Moore; and one sister, Karen Meyer.

Services were held April 25.

 

Joan A. Pantellere-Coffaro

Joan A. Pantellere-Coffaro, 85, of Buckeye died May 5, 2016.

Mrs. Pantellere-Coffaro was born March 20, 1931, in Jersey City, N.J., to John Caporino and Irene Bayer.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Coffaro; one daughter Maryanne Caporino; two sons, Dean Pantellere and Mark Pantellere; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. May 16 at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.

Severo M. Preciado

Severo M. Preciado, 80, of Litchfield Park died April 24, 2016, in Snowflake.

Mr. Preciado was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Phoenix.

He served in the United States Army for nine years, achieving the rank of sergeant.

He worked as a farm worker.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Arbor Day Society.

He is survived by one brother, Joe M. Lopez.

A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Friday at 13302 W. Ocotillo Road, Glendale.

Alejandro Rojel

Alejandro Rojel, 58, of Tolleson died April 13, 2016, from cancer.

Mr. Rojel was born March 9, 1958.

He is survived by one son, Alex Rojel Jr.; his mother, Connie Ruiz; three brothers, Steve Fierro, Richard Rojel and Simon Medina; and three sisters, Rachel Govea, Alicia Garcia and Joanne Medina.

 

Carol Sue Evans Rugh

Carol Sue Evans Rugh, 64, of Buckeye died May 1, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Phoenix from complications of pneumonia.

Mrs. Rugh was born April 9, 1952, in Painesville, Ohio.

She moved to Arizona in 2010.

She was a corporate freelance writer who worked on projects for several Fortune 500 companies, most recently Pepsi.

She was a member of Friends of the Buckeye Public Library and Sons of the Desert.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Rugh; one daughter, Megan Rugh; and one sister, Christine Jackson.

A celebration of life will be from 2 to 5 p.m. May 15 at the Coyote Branch of the Buckeye Public Library, 21699 W. Yuma Road, Buckeye.

Ronald C. Sober

Ronald C. Sober, 69, of Goodyear died April 30, 2016, in Sun City West after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Sober was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Howell, Mich., to Charles and Doris Sober.

He moved to Arizona in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Sumiko Sober; two daughters, Jenny Boyd and Kimberly Sanborn; one son, Greg Osika; one brother, Richard Sober; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N. Old Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, followed by a reception in the church hall.

James Henry Terrells

James Henry Terrells, 68, of Walla Walla, Wash., and formerly of Buckeye died April 20, 2016, in Kennewick, Wash.

Mr. Terrells was born Sept. 15, 1947, in Buckeye to Jesse Lee Terrells and Sedalia Ellis.

He graduated in 1967 from Buckeye Union High School, where he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams.

He attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and Cal State University Los Angeles on football scholarships.

He worked as a purchaser for Pacific Power and Light Co.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Terrells; two daughters, Sharon Miller and Kimberly Terrells; one son, James Terrells Jr.; one sister, Lee Esther Ellis; five brothers, Lonnie L. Ellis, Russell Ellis, Bobby J. Ellis, Willie L. Ellis and Ricky Ellis.

No services will be held.

 

Arie Williams

Arie Williams, 74, of Buckeye died May 2, 2016.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna; three sons, Arie, Jeff and Kenneth Williams; one daughter, Kim Wimberg; one brother, Johnny Hayes; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

Kathryn Sue Williams

Kathryn Sue Williams, 70, of Buckeye died May 3, 2016.

Mrs. Williams was born Jan. 15, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to Russell G. and Wilma L. Krueger.

She graduated in 1964 from Coronado High School in Scottsdale.

She lived in Orange, Calif., where she was active in the Prospect Elementary School PTA and coached Bobby Sox softball.

She helped her husband open and run a family business, Gordon’s Auto Works, where she worked as an office manager.

She moved to Buckeye in 2014.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gordon H. Williams; two daughters, Debra Sue and Kristen Elizabeth; one son, Jeffrey Wayne; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be May 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange, Calif.
